Our Facility
Palm Valley has recently been remodeled and increased our bed capacity. We are currently licensed for 170 beds, providing a warm, friendly and family–like atmosphere for our residents. Built in 1999, Palm Valley provides many features including vaulted ceilings, spacious courtyards, library (complete with movies, Nintendo Wii, and free internet access), many community rooms, a brand new state–of–the–art gym and ample family meeting areas. We have a common area adjacent to our main dining room where entertainment is held everyday for our residents. Palm Valley has many courtyards throughout the facility that allows our residents to enjoy the outdoors in a safe environment. We can accommodate both private as well as semi-private rooms in any of our units. To view pictures of our facility, click HERE. Activities ProgrammingOur residents have choices from a myriad of activities. Each day they have the opportunity to choose which activity they wish to participate in, whether it is a group, independent or one to one activity. The Activity Program at Palm Valley Rehab and Care Center is designed to meet the needs, interests and abilities of each and every resident. Each unit has their own individualized calendar to provide that need. The Sub-Acute Unit offers activities that instill independence and to help create or maintain a positive attitude about their overall well-being. We believe that activity participation goes hand in hand with their rehabilitation because without having a positive outlook, their progress in therapy will not proceed as quickly. A program has been designed for that unit, “Mind, Body and Spirit”, to help educate the residents on the importance of wellness being about the entire being and not just their physical needs. Each resident has the opportunity to participate in independent leisure activity in their rooms, i.e., reading, crafts, word puzzles, newspaper and hand held computer games. They also receive one to one visits that provide lotion and massage, relaxation techniques to control pain and decrease anxiety, nail care, games, crafts and conversation. One innovative program offered is drumming which decreases pain through vibration. Each resident is invited to facility events i.e., music programs, Bingo, special events, current events, church services, bible study and more. We encourage residents to become involved in these events to help increase their overall activity tolerance so that they may be able to return home sooner. Arcadia Suites offers very individualized activities due to their intensive therapy programming. Each person is offered the opportunity to attend major facility events, while their day to day programs are designed to their needs and interests. Every Thursday they have the option of attending a specialized Happy Hour with beverage and appetizers, while on other days Activities, combined with Therapy, the residents play the Nintendo Wii games to gain strength, balance and socialization skills. Oftentimes you will see the residents socializing with one another and enjoying the company of their own families who visit frequently.
The K.I.T. program, which means Keep In Touch, is a sensory program that stimulates each resident to become more aware of themselves and the world around them. This is done before lunch 7 days per week. Another program is Awakenings. This too is designed to stimulate and to increase the residents’ awake time and alertness. Various visual and tactile effects are used to stimulate and each group has music provided as well. Residents who choose not to come out of their rooms receive one to one social visits and leisure activities are provided in their rooms. For those who cannot make choices, they receive one to one sensory stimulation using pet visits, lotion massage, music, poetry reading and more. The Veranda Unit is a Wandering Dementia unit that is set up on a Social Model of Care where everything is considered an activity. They are provided with a calendar of events that provides choices and change. If one activity does not work at a certain time, there are other options available so that each activity is a success for each resident. Activities are set up 24/7 with sensory and manipulative items left out to stimulate independence and to help maintain focus on certain tasks. This in turn helps decrease wandering. Activities are also provided in organized settings for them to do crafts, play games, exercise fun, sing-a-longs, bible study, reminiscence and adaptive sports. The residents maintain a very active schedule each day. The residents who are more advanced in the dementia process receive a very special sensory program called the Snoezelen Effect. This program was designed in Holland for Developmentally Disabled children and was found to be quite successful for persons with dementia. Fiber optic lighting, aromatherapy, music and the solar projector are used in a room designed just for this program to enhance and increase alertness. The program also decreases agitation. The solar projector has various wheels for visual effects, i.e., the ocean, clouds, butterflies and space. They move in a very slow circular motion with overhead lights turned off and all other effects turned on. Residents also receive one to one visits for sensory enhancement and calming. The Pathways Unit is a non–dementia behavioral unit where activities are used to help decrease behaviors. A behavior plan is designed for each resident and their involvement in activities is part of that plan. If they are active and involved, behaviors usually decrease or are less severe. They enjoy bowling, giant crossword puzzles (as a group), bingo, the Wii exercise, special events, music and movies. Their calendar is designed to provide activities to reduce behaviors but also to increase interest in meaningful and positive events. Each program is looked upon as unique and designed to fulfill the various needs of each and every resident. We work closely with the community schools, churches and other organizations to provide a wealth of community events offered in the facility. We also have a chaplain on staff who provides hospital visits, church services, bible studies, individualized prayer, counseling and end of life care and services. When the Chaplain is unavailable, other Activity Staff are trained to provide end of life music, gentle touch and prayer. Palm Valley is proud of the Activity Program and the quality of life it provides to our residents 365 days per year. DiningA registered dietician plans and oversees special diets and individual needs as per doctor order and recommendations. In-put from families and patients are always welcome. Meals are served in our spacious, dining room for Sub-Acute and Long Term Care residents. Our two secured units have the tray service in the units for both resident safety and comfort. We also have a restorative dining room, this room is for our residents who need dining assistance. |
